Turns Out I Know a Happy Dance...

So, listen: I'm getting a dog.

I know, I know...when the best dog in the world died two and a half years ago, I was sure that I'd never want another dog. It took a long time, but about six months ago I started to think about puppies. Only in the most abstract of ways, though, because I live in a rented townhouse and they don't allow dogs. My lease is up soon, and I started thinking about moving to a place where I could have a dog...and then a miracle happened: my landlord came by this morning to ask whether I was going to renew my lease and I told him I really wanted to get a little dog and he kind of shrugged and said, "you can do that".

So that was it--after 28 dogless months, I don't even have to move--all I have to do is get organized, buy some supplies, and pick a dog.

I'm hoping for someone sort of like this:

Meanwhile, although I feel a little silly admitting it, I can hardly think about anything else.

i just got a small havanese dog. I love these little dogs. My last dog was a beagle and I never thought I could replace him...but once a dog owner, always a dog owner.

How wonderful that you're thinking of getting a puppy! There is truly a space in a dog-lover's life that only a dog can fill. Research has even shown health benefits from having a dog and experiencing the ever-joyful dog's welcome at the end of the day.

I wish you luck in picking your new canine best friend!

Take care,
Dr. Deb

It's a good decision that you planned to have a pet dog again after 28 months as life would be lighter when we have pet dogs at home.

Looking forward to see some of the photos of your new dog.

I read your post about Cocoa, what a heartwarming story of the bond you had with your dog. Looking forward to hearing about your new friend when you get him/her. You know it's time when you can't think of anything else.

i agree with matt, once a dog owner, always a dog owner. sometimes, all we need is time to get back on track again. the kind of pup you like is cute :)
